From the resort’s history. Joy Island only opened its doors in early fall 2023 and is part of The Cocoon Collection, an Italian hotel group run by the Azzola family. Their first trip to Asia in the 1970s inspired Enzo and Maria-Rosaria Azzola to open their own hotel in Sri Lanka and promote Italian hospitality in the Indian Ocean countries. The business of the parents was inherited by three sons – Atilio, Alessandro and Andrea. Today the company has 6 hotels in Maldives, Zanzibar and Sri Lanka.

Joy Island is located in the northern atoll of Male, just 40 minutes by boat from Velana International Airport. It offers 151 villas on the beach and in the lagoon.

Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani resorts in Maldives have prepared a special gift for the summer vacations for devoted soccer fans: from July 16 to July 26 there will be soccer camps with two world soccer stars – Igor Oleinik, one of the most titled freestylers in Russia, and Farah Williams, a women’s soccer star from Great Britain.

During their visit Igor and Farah will hold a series of master classes for the guests: Oleinik will introduce the participants to the art of soccer freestyle – the essence of this sport is to demonstrate mastery of the ball, performing various tricks and not letting it fall, and Farah Williams will help to master no less spectacular techniques from classic soccer – not without reason she is considered one of the best performers of standard positions in England. Guests will learn new skills and observe the professionals in action during friendly soccer matches with Igor and Farah held on the professional fields of both resorts.

March 23 – April 6 is when guests can celebrate Easter in the style of the distant kingdom. These days, the fabulous creatures Shrek, Fiona and their legendary “gang” from the epic cartoon adventure will spend their holidays with the guests of the island, delighting them with funny jokes at every step!

March 24 – April 8, Dr. Robin Sharma. With a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy and over 15 years of clinical and therapeutic experience in the field of manual medicine, Dr. Robin Sharma will join the resort’s guests. Following a unique holistic approach, Dr. Sharma uses a wide range of gentle manual manipulations, including spinal and joint adjustments, soft tissue work, treatment of strained fascia, trigger point work, visceral manipulation and a variety of chiropractic techniques to minimize pain, reduce stress and provide greater mobility. Dr. Robin Sharma will be available for private sessions offering the following services:

March 24 – April 8, experienced yoga and fitness trainer Bhagya Lakshmi will share her experience in a wide range of body movement practices. May 5 – May 7, Heaven on Earth. A talented group of ballet dancers from around the world, led by star dancer Julian MacKay, will return to the island with a completely new concept! Guests will experience effortless grace and subtle choreography in two exclusive performances on May 5 and 7, 2024, as well as private ballet lessons with the artists.
