Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, Paris
24 October 2024
As we like to say, the Hôtel de Crillon is a reason in itself to go to Paris for a weekend, although you don’t need a reason at all. And as we never tire of saying, the hotel has 10 signature suites, including two designed by Karl Lagerfeld himself.
The designer, a great admirer of 18th-century architecture, has restored bit by bit the details of that century’s fashion and transformed them into a perfectly calibrated style that is both modern and luxurious. Lagerfeld personally selected the color schemes, ordered the furniture and fabrics, and chose the shade of marble for the bathrooms. Each hotel bathtub was carved from a single slab of Carrara marble weighing more than 2 tons; it had to be lifted to the 4th floor using a crane.
The smallest suite, Queen Choupette, is dedicated to the designer’s favorite cat, Choupette, who was once as popular as many top models. The suite is decorated in black and white, and photo portraits of the Burmese beauty adorn the walls of the corridor. Even the cat’s name is immortalized on the desk made of papier-mâché and bamboo. By the way, both Lagerfeld suites can be rented as a single apartment.
