Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas: Incredible Details

Accommodation
The most modest of the 148 suites, villas and penthouses at Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort & Villas is 90 sq. m – spacious even by the standards of a separate apartment. The largest in area (366 sq. m) is comparable to a solid mansion and has a dizzying option – an infinity pool on the top floor, through the glass bottom of which you can watch your other half or children swim above you while you are in the living room below.
The middle “weight category” (still a gigantic 198 sq. m) includes fancy beach villas with a pool. From the balcony of my elegant deluxe sea view room, these villas seemed to be an extension of the rolling, tiered green lawns that, like the resort’s buildings and paths, follow the waves. One of the staff aptly dubbed them “hobbit houses” after the earthen-roofed dwellings in The Lord of the Rings. The description doesn’t do justice to their scale, but it conveys the essence of their charm.
Restaurants and Bars
There are few options nearby, and the staff are of course happy to suggest options and call a taxi if the resort’s sky-high (by Thai standards) prices begin to wear on you. Fortunately, the quality at Anantara is top-notch.
We dined at Pakarang Thai Restaurant on our first night. It was excellent, although not particularly eye-opening for those not new to Thailand. But the second night was truly special. The Beach Restaurant is Anantara’s signature beach grill, where they masterfully work with both seafood and meat. On Fridays, dinner is accompanied by a spectacular fire show right on the sand. Three bare-chested young men turn into living wheels, and tongues of flame soar into the night sky to a height of five meters.
They also served a grandiose Surf and Turf buffet with lobster, crab and wagyu, which were cooked over a fire to our order. I have had dry, overcooked lobsters before, but here it was juicy and delicious. The cocktails are also top notch. And the buffet breakfast at the resort is a delight! A fantastic selection of morning dishes. Impeccable execution.
Infrastructure
In a peaceful spa complex with a hydromassage pool and Moroccan hammam, I had one of the most relaxing massages of my life. It cost almost ten times more than that simple beach massage on Koh Lanta, but it was on a completely different level.
Together with very Thai friendly service and amazing apartments, all this made me think that I didn’t want to leave this place.
You can make interesting forays into the surrounding area to get acquainted with local crafts – rubber production or fine crafts in Batik de Kohyao (an excellent place to buy unique souvenirs). And in addition to the obligatory visit to Laem Had Beach, you can take a longer excursion – for example, a sea trip on the resort’s own 17-meter luxury yacht to unforgettable beauties like Hong Island, James Bond Island, or Phang Nga Bay.
What is offered especially for children – in the continuation of the story.
