Carnival processions in Viareggio
24 November 2025
The carnival in Viareggio is one of the brightest and most spectacular in Italy. In 2026, it will be held from February 1 to February 21. The holiday is famous for huge allegorical platforms with papier-mache figures, which often make fun of politicians and famous people. This tradition has existed since 1873.
Parades are held on the embankment and central streets. Musical performances and theatrical shows complement the festive atmosphere.
Parade schedule:
* February 1, 15:00 – opening of the carnival with a parade and fireworks.
* February 7, 17:00 – the second evening parade.
* February 12, 17:00 – the third evening parade.
* February 15, 3 p.m. – the fourth parade.
* February 17, 3 p.m. – Mardi Gras Day parade (Fat Tuesday).
* February 21, 17:00 – the final parade with the announcement of the winners and fireworks.
It is not only a celebration of masks, but also an opportunity to see the arts and crafts in the atmosphere of the Tuscan coast.
To fully enjoy the trip and the carnival, it is better to book tickets and accommodation in advance.
