Metropole Monte-Carlo: “In the Footsteps of Grace Kelly, or How to Live a Day Like a Princess”
1 August 2025
Did you know that breeders developed a special rose for the wedding of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III? The variety was named Princesse de Monaco, it is an elegant hybrid tea flower with delicate pink petals and a rich aroma. Today it is the heart of the Princess Grace rose garden, a garden of 5 thousand square meters, where more than 6 thousand rose bushes grow. You can stroll along the flower alleys and visit other iconic places associated with the legendary actress and princess by becoming a guest of the Metropole Monte-Carlo hotel. Especially for guests, the hotel organizes an individual route as part of the Just For You program “In the Footsteps of Grace Kelly”.
Touch the legend
Located in the heart of Monte Carlo, next to the casino and a step away from the Mediterranean Sea, the Metropole Monte-Carlo is a hotel with history. Built in 1886 in the Belle Époque style, it was completely renovated by the architect Jacques Garcia and turned into one of the most elegant hotels in Europe. Combining tradition and modernity, the hotel has updated the rooms and suites, while maintaining the warm and cozy Mediterranean style that reflects the spirit of this place.
The hotel has only 100 rooms and suites, which makes it luxurious and intimate at the same time.
For its guests, the Metropole Monte-Carlo has prepared only the best – a harmony of classic and modern, exquisite dinners, exclusive spa treatments and special itineraries available only to a select few. For example, “In the Footsteps of Grace Kelly” is a tour that will allow you to carefully touch the history of one of the most famous women in the world.
During the tour, guests will visit:
• Princess Grace Rose Garden. Her love for flowers was not just a hobby, but part of her image and character. Roses accompanied Grace Kelly everywhere: in prints on clothes and shoes, in the form of jewelry. In every hotel where she stayed, lush bouquets were left – this was her invariable condition. Today, 300 varieties of roses bloom in the princess’s favorite garden, Princess Grace Rose Garden. It is pleasant to take a leisurely stroll here, inhale the sweet aroma and for a moment imagine yourself as a princess who has forever inscribed her name in the history of Monaco.
• St. Nicholas Cathedral. The place of the wedding and eternal rest of the princely couple.
• Princess Grace Irish Library. This is a quiet place with an archive of her personal collection (about 9 thousand books and musical scores), created in memory of her Irish roots and refined literary taste.
• Princess Grace Foundation. Charity was not a tribute to fashion for Grace, but an inner need. She said: “I was lucky in life: I have money, I must help those who do not have it. This is my duty.” The princess organized matinees for children in the palace, visited orphanages and organized performances. Later, she created a foundation that today supports art, theater, talented youth and medical initiatives.
“This excursion is a step back in time to follow the life of a legendary figure who continues to shine over the principality to this day,” the Metropole Monte-Carlo notes.
Just For You
The program is available exclusively to hotel guests: this is not a mass tour, but a private and special event. You can book your route and find out more details through the Á La Carte Premium specialists.
After returning from a journey in Grace’s footsteps, guests can continue their day in the spirit of a true princess: dine at the Michelin-starred restaurant Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac or appreciate the Japanese sophistication of Yoshi. Have a cocktail by the pool at the Odyssey lounge restaurant, designed by Karl Lagerfeld.
In the summer of 2025, the hotel opened another place for pleasure – Spa Metropole by Guerlain, an exclusive spa space, the treatments in which were created especially for the hotel by the legendary French perfume house.
